We had recently had to have our 12 year old dog

We had recently had to have our 12 year old dog put to sleep. Our house seemed so lonley without her, so we decided to adopt another dog. At the local shelter there was a beautiful Australian Shepherd that had been found wandering. She had a collar on and a stump of rope attached to it. I wanted her right away, but she was on a three day hold to give her owners time to claim her. My husband decided he liked another dog better and we took her home for a trial, but she didn’t get along with our two cats (chased them), so we took that dog back. No one else at the shelter appealed to me.

My hubby said to tell the shelter workers that if she was not claimed by her owners, we wanted her. Two days later I picked Russette up. She’s now a happy house dog with her own door and fenced yard, and is never tied up. She will chew a leash in two if I take my eyes off of her, but she doesn’t run off. So we have a chain leash for when we must absolutely have one, but other wise we let her loose and she stays with us.

She loves to go out early in the morning and then comes to me to give me the weather report. She nudges me until I comment on what the weather is like: “Your covered with snowflakes, is it snowing hard?” Or “Your coat is very warm, is it nice and sunny out?” Once she knows I am aware of how to dress when *I* leave the house, she lays down beside my chair until I get up to go.

If I am away from the house longer than I think she I should be, she will take one of my houseshoes, something else of mine out into her yard to punish me.

Rusty loves the cats and gives them baths, and they aren’t the least bit afraid of her.

Having Rusty in the house has made it a home again.

Credits goes to the respective owner ♥️…!
