One day, while I was working upstairs in my office, my German Shepherd came up and stood in the doorway, barking loudly.
He walked over to the top of the stairs, barking as he looked down. Then he turned his head towards me, barking as if trying to tell me something.
He came back to the office doorway, still barking at me, and repeated this a few times. It became clear that he wanted me to follow him. I got up and asked him, “What’s wrong?”
At that exact moment, the house began to shake.
Everything on the walls and shelves rattled loudly. I didn’t immediately understand what was going on, but we both ran downstairs as I yelled, “Let’s get the hell out of here!”
Once outside, I felt the ground moving beneath my feet. Then it stopped.
We had just experienced an earthquake, something almost unheard of in our region.
Somehow, my German Shepherd had sensed it was coming and came upstairs to warn me.
He did many smart things in his lifetime, but that moment was by far the most extraordinary.
