“On Mother’s Day this year, my family and I went to IHOP for breakfast. As we were pulling in, we saw a man sitting on the side of the road holding a sign. Everyone else was just passing by, not noticing him. We decided to stop, give him a few dollars, and talk to him for a minute. He said, ‘I appreciate the money, but what I really need is a job. All I have is my bike, but I’ll do whatever I have to for work. I’ve had some tough times, and it’s really brought me down.’
We spent about an hour talking to him. My husband works for PGT, a glass company in southwest Florida. We gave him all the information he needed, people to contact, and our phone number. The very next morning, my husband saw the same man! He had ridden his bike 30 miles to get to PGT. 30 miles! My husband introduced him to the right people, and he filled out an application.
I’m happy to share that this man now has a job and is working as hard as he can at PGT. My husband even took him shopping to get the things he needed for work. It makes me feel so lucky to have such a selfless man in my life. He sees potential in people even when they can’t see it themselves. The man was struggling, but with some support, he’s back on his feet.
We always try to teach our kids not to judge people by how they look and to always be kind. This is a true example of how one kind gesture can change someone’s life for the better. Be kind, always.” ❤️
