My fiancé, Mickey, had recently lost his dog after developing crippling seizures over a course of a couple of months. He was just heartbroken. So we decided to go to our local humane society after work and walk dogs to help ease his pain. Every day, he would immediately go straight to Grayci’s kennel and walk her first. She was a shy, quiet hound/shepherd mix and Mickey was in love. We visited for almost a month, and we couldn’t believe such a wonderful dog wasn’t getting adopted. She was polite, friendly, beautiful, and good on a leash. Who wouldn’t want her? She was perfect. After a while, Grayci is all me and Mickey talked about, so we took the plunge and filled out the adoption application. They had to keep her for a few days to get her spayed and recover from that.
The day Mickey picked up Grayci; he said she knew she was going home with us. She was 2 years old and looked like she previously had puppies. She has been the best dog you could ever ask for. Everybody who visits us absolutely falls in love with her. We love her more than anything. She loves her house, but really loves her yard. She will walk around the fence when she goes out to make sure everything is okay.
We have had her a little over a year now. We have started fostering dogs for a local rescue, and she is a great big sister. She teaches the foster dogs to go potty outside and to have good manners at dinnertime. We currently have a little puppy, and she is so patient with the crazy puppy and lets her jump all over her. We couldn’t have asked for a better dog if we would’ve paid a million dollars for her.
Adopt, don’t shop. There are wonderful dogs sitting in shelters everywhere.
