How did the American soldiers react to the concentration camps?

The smell of decaying bodies and human excrement and the sight of naked, emaciated bodies induced vomiting, crying, disbelief, and rage in the advancing troops. Advancing soldiers from H Company, 22nd Regiment, used a loudspeaker to call on the SS to surrender, but they continued to fire in bursts.

General Eisenhower brought a camera crew. He asked them to document the mass murders of Ohrdruf concentration camps. He wanted future generations to never forget.

He also talked to the townspeople who claimed they knew nothing of the death camps. He forced the members of the town to bury the victims.

US Army 82nd Airborne Division forced the townspeople of Ludwigslust who claimed they knew nothing about the Wöbbelin concentration camps to make a visit of their victims.
