When I was in my early teens

When I was in my early teens, my parents used to say that I couldn’t wear jeans or any kind of Western clothes.

One day, out of frustration, I said:

“Mom, Dad, please don’t restrict what I wear. Let me wear what I want. I promise I’ll make you proud. Just trust me.”

To my surprise, they agreed right away.

Now, they even offer me clothes like off-shoulders, shorts, and dresses.

When I chose science (non-medical) in 11th grade, many relatives said things like:

“How can she study science? She was weak in math. Ask her if she’s doing this because of a friend.”

My dad confidently replied, “I know my daughter and respect her decision. Besides, she’s not weak anymore.”

One day, while my dad and I were out shopping, I asked him, “Dad, how would you feel if you found me coming out of a bar or having a cigarette with friends? You’ve never been strict with me, so how would you react?”

He responded, “And what if I asked you to get out of the car and not come back home? Or told you to forget about shopping and city life altogether? How would you react?”

I quickly said, “Sorry, Dad. Let’s change the topic.”

My parents aren’t strict, but they know how to make sure I don’t cross my limits.
